Description of Duality of Time

Duality of Time is an observation on the division within this country and my concern that it will lead to our ruin.

The two men in the right-hand bottom corner represent society in general and the extreme opposition we currently have with each other. They are working the gears of the doomsday clock set to the time of 11:58, a symbol which represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. I have used this image in many of my paintings. I am once again expressing my concern that we could lose our democracy and perhaps even our lives, to a dictator.

A man can be seen peering through the gears at the 9:00 mark. This figure represents the force or person that works against us that we don’t understand or can’t see as he’s working behind the scenes.

Finally, in the front right corner is an image of a female with her back to the clock. I don’t understand it, but I had to put this image in as that’s the way I saw the painting. Subconsciously, I suspect this could represent me not wanting this time in my life to end as the figure is that of my life partner. I also feel it represents mother-earth. Does Mother Earth, the sustainer of life, represent a small hope in me that we will survive this?
